I am a long-time meditator, teacher and musician. I bring secular mindfulness practices to my classroom teaching, individual and group music lessons, and in my leadership as Co-Director of the Suzuki Music Program of Los Angeles. I have a Master’s degree from UT Austin in Ethnomusicology and an undergraduate degree in Latin American and Latino Studied. I am currently working on my second album of children’s songs under the title Peach & Spoon (www.peachandspoon.com)

As most people do, I discovered meditation during a difficult time, a break up. A friend of mine heard of Ken McLeod, an ex lama in the Tibetan Buddhist tradition who calls what he does “pragmatic Buddhism.” After attending one of his classes around 2003, I was hooked. I read his book, studied with him at every workshop and retreat and became his retreat organizer over the next 5 years or so, helping him with his next publications and audio books and podcasts. Despite years of education in my field, I felt for the first time, that I was learning about my own mind, how to observe it, put some space between an event and my reaction to the event, which helped me to make better choices... sometimes.

Things started changing for me as I became a regular meditator. I starting feeling a little more grounded and was interested in sharing that awakening with others. I became a meditation instructor through the Interdependence Project with Ethan Nichtern in New York, also a teacher in the Tibetan Buddhist tradition, and during that year long training I learned about Reiki from my colleague who would later train me to be a Reiki master. My connection to energy work began during meditation retreats when we would practice a QiGong routine called the 8 Pieces of Silk Brocade, between 30 minute sits. I noticed the energy move me, I felt energized and restful at the same time, and later with Reiki, I noticed that I felt calm and comforted when I practiced Reiki on myself.

I started having surgeries in my late 20s, but almost without fail every 5-8 years the doctors would give me the option to do this surgery or get a hysterectomy. Along the way I developed an autoimmune condition and a lung condition and sought out holistic doctors to help along with my regular doctors. Finally after three years one doctor suggested Reconnective Healing. I read Dr. Eric Pearl’s book and then trained with him and Gillian Fleer to become an energy practitioner, learning about this new idea in energy healing. The idea of healing began to take on new meaning for me, as I practice with the frequencies. When I practiced Qigong and Reiki before, I didn’t realize that a healing was taking place, but I always felt good doing it.  Perhaps healing is a great combination of events that all conspire to bring us some peace and rest in the face of whatever difficulty we face, whether it is physical pain, emotional anguish, or something else.

Learning to feel these frequencies in Reconnective Healing is extraordinary, and has become a part of my life I’m eager to share with you toward your own healing.
